Drain Cleaning Long Beach

Drain systems fail in predictable ways when you understand the mechanics behind them. Kitchen drains accumulate fats, oils, and grease that congeal on pipe walls as they cool, reducing interior diameter progressively until flow slows to a trickle or stops. Bathroom drains accumulate hair and soap scum that bind together into dense mats around the drain body and inside the trap. Main sewer lines develop root intrusion through cracked joints and are prone to debris accumulation at low spots caused by pipe settlement. Long Beach Pro Plumbing Inc handles drain cleaning for all of these situations throughout the city using the method that actually fits the problem.

Drain snaking, properly called drain augering, is the right tool for a blockage that is discrete and located within the first several feet of the drain run. A cable machine drives a rotating steel cable with a cutting head through the pipe, breaking up or retrieving the obstruction. It is fast and effective for hair clogs, small grease accumulations, and debris that has not yet bonded heavily to the pipe wall. The limitation of snaking is that it clears a path through the blockage without cleaning the pipe walls, so buildup resumes from the same surfaces that caused the original problem.

Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water delivered through a specialized nozzle at pressures typically ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 PSI depending on the line size and the nature of the blockage. The rearward-facing jets on a hydro jetting nozzle propel the nozzle forward through the line while simultaneously blasting the pipe walls clean in all directions. The forward-facing jet breaks up compacted debris ahead of the nozzle. The result is a pipe that is close to its original interior diameter rather than simply having a channel cleared through accumulated buildup.

For kitchen drain lines serving commercial kitchens or homes with heavy cooking use, hydro jetting is the only method that fully addresses grease-coated pipe walls. We use a grease-cutting nozzle configuration and work from the cleanout closest to the problem area back toward the main. On main sewer lines with root intrusion, hydro jetting removes the root mass, and we follow it with a camera inspection to assess the entry points and condition of the pipe.

Long Beach homes in Wrigley, North Long Beach, and similar older neighborhoods often have four-inch cast iron main drain lines with decades of scale accumulation. Camera inspection before service on those lines tells us what we are dealing with and whether the line can be safely hydro jetted or whether structural concerns need to be addressed first.
